I have been using them on & off for 10 years in Hong Kong for pretty basic banking, mostly because they have a lot of branches. They have always been pretty hopeless & generally couldn't care less, but that is common for Hong Kong banks. Today I spent the whole day in a HSBC branch, quite literally from 9am to 5pm trying to transfer a large sum of money from my account to another account with UBS in HK. Their incompetence was absolutely staggering & blatantly illegal. They refused to transfer my money, simply because they did not wish me to bank elsewhere. It was a large sum of cash. Please be warned, when it comes to a transaction that is large or important they invariably let their clients down or make it very complicated to move your money. There is no banking Ombudsman or regulatory oversight in HK, which means banks like HSBC essentially can make their own rules, you can threaten them with the Police & Lawyers but it means little to them because they know you will never pursue them through the courts. There "procedures" today cost me $100,000USD in late settlement penalties. I would not bank with them again & I strongly caution anyone who is considering them as a retail bank to reconsider, you may be more exposed than you realise. They may let you down badly when it really matters.

The worst banking experience. I have been a customer of HSBC (business) for 10 years now. During the last 3 years it got worse and worse. OUr relationship manager (Quentin Van Marle and his colleague Michelle Tenannt) have stopped answering calls and emails for weeks now. We will report this to the relevant authorities. We are migrating 8 businesses to Metro now. I have been trying to speak to some manager to complain fro weeks now. Nothing. They are completely ignoring me/us. Just that! Awful experience also with their IT systems, admin and customer service. I have been waiting for 45 minutes to speak to an operator the last time I have called. and it has been like that for the last couple of years now. Very bad!

This is surely the worst bank in the world. They block your card each time you try to buy anything except food. Once they block your card there is a 7 days waiting time regardless if you call them to say it is genuine transaction. My card has been blocked several times this year and I have no idea how many new cards I have been given. It's a joke - they have no staff to help you and if you need a help like me yet again today when I was trying to transfer money from one account to my other - they have blocked my account without any warning. Now I'm on the phone listening to some weird music for an hour with no response. I'm going for holidays and my account is blocked - Avoid this bank otherwise you will waste your precious time waiting on the phone begging them to unblock your account. Bunch of cowboys set to max profit and treat you like a thief even if you send money from one bank account to another. Good bye HSBC - I HAVE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW POOR YOU ARE - YOUR ARE DISGRACE TO HUMANITY

I have been trying to get my business debit card delivered to my new home address. They said it's not possible to deliver I have to come into the branch and pick it up. When I popped in the card wasn't there and they asked me to come back once the card has arrived. I tried reaching out to see if the debit card has arrived but I keep getting ignored. Stay away from this company!

I booked an appointment to register a power of attorney at HSBC as my mum has an account with them. To start with when I turned up at the branch this chap in one of the offices just looked up at me and went back to typing on his screen. It was obvious I wasn't going to the general queue but he couldn't be bothered to ask me if I needed help. After a few minutes of being ignored I tapped on the door and said to him that I was a little early but had an appointment with his colleague at 12. His exact words were "sit there and I will tell her you are here". He then went back to his typing. Not only did he not ring anyone to say I was there but he left it until the dot of 12 before getting up from his seat, continuing to ignore me and then went out to get his colleague. That was on 11th October and they were given all the information they needed for the P of A. I was told that everything would take about 10 days and then I would be notified so I could apply re online banking. Three weeks down the line and I have heard nothing. Emailed the young lady yesterday to ask what the situation is and I have been ignored. I went through the same process with Santander and it was completely easy and went smoothly. How come HSBC are taking nearly a month with still no confirmation that all is in order?

After 30 years I have had to sack these clowns. Mis-selling of PPI. Withdrawing free overdraft when I took a graduate loan... therefore getting my 0% debt on to a whopping APR. and now their voice recognition telephone service does not work... and they refuse to comminicate with me. I'm only trying to shut the damned account. Oh and they also closed my local branch... but that not all bad, as one old lady who worked in the branch was a right cow, and it was clear she didnt like me. Small towns eh!

DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK. The worst bank, ever. Literally, I've had a simple request to change my Bank Statement's house address and they cannot fix it! I've been to the bank over 5 times for this same issue!!?? It's the smallest problem that they can't even fix. This review doesn't even do justice as to how angry and frustrated I am. Now I have to go all the way back to the bank, AGAIN...

My second review has not improved from the last one. I gave HSBC the benfit of doubt by another try to sign-up for a business account online on 17 June 2017 (ref 721031102032716). One June 25 I get an email that they have moved no closer with the application. I was suppose to be mailed a letter with confirmation details to bring to the bank as I would bring ID etc to verify the account in person. It never arrived. So I went to a business branch to verify my details and wrote the reference number by a hand since I never got the letter. I verified everything at Kensington High Street and signed the documents. I was suppose to get the account details a week later. Two weeks go by, nothing arrives. I then get a voice message with some odd reference number to give regarding my new account application and that I need to contact HSBC before my application moves forward. I again go to High Street Kensington but no one can find anything in my account application with that reference number provided to me, nor is there any note in the account that I need to provide anything else. I am later told I am missing a signature (which I am not, as I signed the documents two weeks prior). Again I am told I will get the account a week later. Nothing arrives. As of 19 July I am still struggling to get the account details, card, etc. Nothing has arrived. On 20 July - over one month later since I applied - I again get a phone call with no clarification what exactly they need which says they have a question before my application moves forward. AGAIN I go to Kensington High Street Branch but all my application references come up clear and with nothing due to verify or provide. I have no clue HOW this bank continues to exist with such poor procedures and WHEN I will actually get my account. How can one trust to deposit any funds in this bank?? Unreal. It's like the third wold.

I am surprised that a bank like HSBC can manage their application process so poorly. In late April 2017 I received a letter from HSBC regarding my new online account application (ref NSC08/1952485428) to verify my identity at a branch. In first week of May I went to the HSBC Gloucester Road branch to verify my ID and brought passport, drivers license, bank statement. Not only was the new accounts provider (Derek/Darren?) rude but he was plain unprofessional. He took all my identity details. We are now in July and I have heard nothing more about the account or the application. I needed the account and the delays provided massive delays and problems for me. I then tried again and made another application. After going to the branch, this time on High Street Kensington (where they were much nicer than at Gloucester Road) to verify my identity the same thing happened. Two weeks later not one word from HSBC and no account or cards have been provided. How can it be legal for a bank to provide such unreliable services?

A small local non-profit group I work with had their account stopped without warning, breaching their terms and conditions of a 60 day warning. First the organisation heard was people getting in touch when their Standing Orders were returned. Even though HSBC admitted it was a mistake they would not reopen and they were left with over £4000 of lost Standing Orders and donations.

He is owed £50,000 of his money. He closed the account and informed them where to send the cheque and in what name, Despite frantic telephone calls literally dozens of them he was told the cheque was sent to his old address. We now live abroad, He contact them to be told that he would have to deposit the cheque in the account of the name on the cheque. It ceased to trade sometime previous. he flew back to the UK recently and spent ages with a Manager but to no avail. How do we get OUR MONEY? I recently switched banks to HSBC. I must say, it's been about a month now, I have had several interactions and I have been consistently delighted with the service. They seem to want to do everything possible to help. I think it was a great decision to switch both my business and personal accounts and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.

My money has been in HSBC Bank 7424 13th Ave Brooklyn NY for 40+ years. I spoke to Mr. Renelle about water damaged money. Mr Renelle asked me to open envelope with damaged money and said "Can't take money because can't put thru machine". When I asked if this was HSBC Policy on damaged money, he replied "it is up to the manager and I am the Manager". He told me go to Federal Reserve Bank to exchange. HSBC Policy on damged money Bills must be more then 1/2 and numbers can be clearly read. All my water damaged was completely whole where number could be read easily. Summary: Manager Raymond Renelle went against HSBC Policy and then gave false statement about Federal Reserve Bank. Federal Reserve Bank only deals with institutions, therefore, I couldn't bring my money there. There was No Reason for Manager Renelle not to take money. Went to Bank a few blocks away and my money was taken. Mr Renelle in one conversation accomplished the following: l. Angry when telling me I am the Manager. 2.Doesn't know Federal Reserve Bank is for institutions. 3.Doesn't know that water damaged money Can't be put thru machine. 4.Lost a customer for HSBC

We have nothing but praise for the HSBC premier call centre which is nothing short of excellent. The staff are courteous, helpful and competent and my Husband and myself think they are the best part of banking with HSBC. We have never had a negative experience when dealing with them and prefer to phone the call centre for transactions than doing them through online banking. May HSBC keep this great service for its customers and not move to online banking only ,especially as they have closed many branches .

The new website is the absolute worst. So many things I can no longer do, include read any messages they have sent responding to my queries. I am now driving around and giving people cheques, as I cannot set them up for interac, I cannot import transactions to Quicken as I can only get a pdf! Will have to individually type each expense into my software. I have requested a call back, which has not come, and cannot request another as they have recorded the initial request. I can't believe how badly this site fails on the most basic requirements. Super disgusted.

I really do want to warn people about the poor service from this organisation . And I have. Ever been moved to complain about any other company ever . I am in the process of closing my account and reporting them to trading standards . Of course complaining is as difficult as anything else you try to do with HSBC . They advertise loan borrowing rates falsely and for no reason increase rates from 3.3% to 9% . This is without any explanation or know reasons . When you try to complain the staff just don't care as they know you will probably give up as the queuing time just to complain is 40 minutes . Reporting them to trading standards has no impact as they have such a bad reputation - truly awful company that verges on being unethical. Please do not waste your time with this bank .

Mortgage loan was approved via the online application process. Besides being really slow in terms of getting an approval and mortgage offer issued, no catastrophe. Until you want to change something on your approved mortgage - we wanted to amend the sales price and reduce the loan amount before pay out. Impossible. Genuinely impossible. At this stage one has no access to the online application anymore, so you're dealing with multiple, incompetent call centres. I have spent 8hrs 46mins (and I do not exaggerate) on telephone calls with HSBC over the last 3 days trying to fix the problem. We are still in limbo. We are now (just before completion) looking for a new mortgage provider as the mortgage loan is genuinely in limbo - I cannot do anything online and the various call centres cannot fix. AVOID HSBC. Recommend HSBC to your worst enemy!
