If you are looking for a mortgage then avoid RBS!!! I have been a RBS customer for more than 20years and have the chance to buy our council house. We have £24,000 to put down as a deposit so were only looking for £30,000. After 3 weeks of back and fore to the mortgage adviser (and taking time of work etc) they decided to have their own valuation done and with that, we thought there would not be a problem. But the next day, we were told that their underwriters had refused us! We were devastated and thought we were going to lose our chance to buy. We then decided to try other lenders and brokers and have had mortgage lenders throwing mortgages at us!!! If I ever win the lottery, I will take great pleasure in opening an account with another bank!! Don't be taken in with their adverts that they are there to help you! What a load of nonsense and a complete waste of valuable time. Shame on you RBS

Cannot belive that rbs has so many bad reviews, I also had some issues lately, every single week whoever do the transactions always put me overdrawn so they can charge me a fee of 9 pounds thats sick, first the fee was 6 last week was 9 I even set up with my broadband the payment days and still going on overdrawn without my authorization, I should have changed the bank last week but I thougt it will be ok but no they are not ok. I will change it ASAP, thank God I dont even have much money.

Went to pay for pertol where the card got declined, called up the customer number, they had no idea what was going on. In my notes there was a number who the customer service could not get in touch with. Went to the branch, there i was told my account was closed, I should come in the next morning to withdraw my money. Went the next morning, got a letter handed that I had to wait for a letter in post for further instructions. Ridiculous service. They've taken my money and are telling me I can't have it till I receive their letter....

Applied to open a Business Bank account nearly 2 months ago. Still no reply. Submitted required documents, had phone interview. Rang up to chase up application, promised phone calls back. No one has called back. Went to Yorkshire Bank, account opened within a week, card received, online account sorted. RBS is a joke!!

The mis-selling, bad-debt riddled bank really goes from terrible to abominable. Phoned to enquire about whether it was possible to pay money in branch using a debit card from another financial institution. "Where's it from?" which was a needless and pointless question, followed by "No, no, no, no you can't". My debit card was blocked when I went to Australia in February, despite me phoning to tell them weeks before hand that it would be used there to avoid any needless security procedures (as per their website instructions). Been with RBS since August 1994 (nearly 23 years) but they've progressively gotten worse over the past decade or so. Happily moving bank in the next few weeks. It feels like banking with a sinking ship anyway!

This is a truly terrible organisation and they should be so ashamed of themselves. 2 fraudulent transactions on my account and my fraud complaint was dismissed without reason, even when pushed to give a reason, they refused - they are unwilling to repay the money or offer any reason why they have said no. Emergency transactions require you to speak to the bank, meaning the bank spoke directly to the fraudster twice and gave them access to my money twice - once while I was out of the country and therefore not able to withdraw money from a UK cashpoint. Avoid avoid avoid! You would think a bank in such financial difficulty would be more careful with the money of the tax-payers who bailed them out - apparently not!

Should have looked here first... It takes RBS days and days to get anything done. They are operating in a digital age on 19th century timescales. Everything takes between 3-7 working days for decisions to be made. Everything is done by post; you can never talk to anyone twice. These aren't people to run a new business with; went to see metro bank this morning and they've set me up a new account almost immediately.

Closing my account ASAP. Avoid at all costs. Even if this shower offered free banking for life I wouldn't stay. They've put a block on my business account because they say we have had a change of ownership - not true. Companies House have confirmed yet still they refuse to lift the block. Today they said it was because we were out of date for our business review??? I run several other businesses - banking elsewhere thank goodness - but have never had to undertake a business review!! They also said they had no ID on file for me ... I'm a signatory and a card holder - no ID - I don't think so! Icing on the cake was the review with the senior business manager when he asked why I was valuing the business at a certain rate. I said because of the value of the intellectual property. His response ... you said that you lease your premises!!! *smacks head off wall*

We are sat in St Pauls branch in London, where RBS have yet again lost our I'd documents. Not only is this treated casually, despite being a data breach, they still cannot manage to organise themselves, despite the fact that the branch has copies of the I'd docs. We've processed £3m through the account so far with another £30m as we grow our business this year. Chance of continuing with RBS , zilch. Crap service, end to end.

Terrible customer service. I wanted to open business account as I currently have current account. After going through online application I was then instructed to call them after being in queue for 20mins I gave up and requested call back. After a few days I was called by an extremely condescending woman who took it upon herself to start giving me business advice. I just old her to forget it. I then called bank of Scotland and after 30 mins I had opened a business account and also spoke to an extremely kind helpful person on the phone. I will now be transferring all my other accounts away from Rbos. I have been a customer with Rbos for 25 years but will now be moving all accounts to another bank.

If your after a hassle free bank account, go somewhere else. I decided to open my account after it was promoted on Martin Lewis money saving expert, it was at 3% interest for £5k. Yes please, thank yo very much. I put my money in, within a couple of months I receive a letter oh sorry were going to drop your rate. Ok I get it, it happens. My main problem is trying to move my money around, or make payments. You can't! The second you want to pay someone (even move cash to another one of your accounts) they cancel your payment and block your online account. This keeps happening, I ring up go though all the hoops 'yes this is me' 'here is my proof'. I go to make the payment they originally blocked. Boom! again they stop the transaction. Not professional when your trying to pay bills. They say it's all to protect me but I have absolutely no problems with my other accounts with another bank.

Been with RBS 9 years now. I have 2 current accounts a business and ISA accounts. I run my own landscaping business, never been overdrawn and asked for an overdraft on my business account just to cover me over the quiet period of Dec, Jan, Feb. My company took about £86000 last year. They said I will have to apply, their robot said no... my credit is good.. after being a loyal customer for years, them taking loads of business charges off me. Totally disgusted with this bank, bailed out by the tax payer with Billions.... they get money with a bad credit history and I don't with good history. RBS days are numbered in my eyes. Taken my business elsewhere now, cashed in my ISA in cash. Really do avoid this bank, excessive charges, customer services is discusting. Lost yet another customer RBS

RBS group are a complete waste of time, their incompetence is breathtaking. 6 months to open a Business Bank Account (no borrowings required) 3 months to add someone to the mandate, 3 months to remove someone from the Mandate no longer with the company. Credit Card benefits withdrawn but no one bothered to tell me, meanwhile travelled extensively but blissfully unaware they had removed travel insurance from my benefits. When questioned told me tha as I hadn't suffered financially then there was nothing they would do. They are beyond a joke, I'm redirecting several £hundreds of thousands worth of investments from them and moving all my business bank accounts, all 4 of which each have credit balances of £several tens of thousands and the staff don't care. Is it any wonder they are a lame duck and loosing £billions

Running a very successful Business despite the RBS slapping a £2000 limit on my Debit card ( without informing me), new business manager offered a Credit card. 8 weeks later paperwork through( no card) with an unworkable credit limit. Called numerous times still awaiting a call back. Attitude was couldn't care. I have finally had enough moving to SANTANDER they are super keen to help and have taken so many small business accounts from RBS. 15 years of Loyalty means nothing to RBS Still on the way down

Applied for a basic current account over two months ago and still have nothing to show for it. Been in to branch several times, showed my ID twice, filled in two applications, and been promised several times that I would receive my account details by a certain date. Nothing. Resorted to Facebook page to get RBS to look into it, and six days later the result was - pop into branch again to open an account. Absolutely ridiculous customer service. Needless to say I won't be 'popping in'. Avoid.

Customer service non existent after eight working days I have still to receive my pin number and bank card after opening a Instant saver account.. when I went into the branch to see what was going on I was told a pin and card was never ordered even though was told I would receive it in five working days by a adviser when i was opening the account, so I have now terminated this account and will do the same with my current account and never use this bank ever again.

I recently phoned the RBS requesting a contactless card for my business bank account and to my surprise got told that 'Companies House would not allow a contactless card for a limited company, to solve this I need to call Companies House and get them to authorise my contactless card'. What a bloody joke, anyone, nevermind someone works in a bank, anyone with common sense would not comment something like that. What a joke of a bank.

The RBS should hang their heads in shame. I was promised a phone call back re my mum's bank account (she is hospitalised and has dementia) last week (St. John's Road, Edinburgh branch); the matter is rather urgent as there had been a threat in branch that her account could be frozen. I have heard nothing. I have tried to phone the manager (I use that term in the loosest possible terms) twice on the mobile number she gave me (the direct line number to the branch was now defunct which she hadn't mentioned) and left messages and there has been no response. I then phoned customer services (Fraud) on Saturday morning and spoke to a empty headed moron (who sounded about 12) called Megan. She was so obstructive and rude that I asked for her surname. She refused to give it to me. I then asked to speak to a manager.. After an interminable wait, a rude, arrogant idiot came on the phone to explain that they can't give out surnames for fear of reprisals on Facebook!! Have you ever heard such nonsense in all your life?!! These people have no idea of customer care, politeness and empathy. They are a disgrace. I will now be closing my account next week as I have had enough of their rudeness and incompetence. The situation with my mother's account is urgent and they couldn't care less. It's disgusting. PLEASE AVOID THIS BANK AT ALL COSTS. They are unprofessional and not a proper bank. Propped up by the tax payer. DO NOT BANK WITH RBS. You have been warned!!

Regret setting up telephone banking - easy to do but when you want to make a simple transaction that's when the problems start. Telephone personnel was patronising, had no customer service skills, could not relay information in an effective manner and came across as arrogant and rude. Spent over an hour on the phone in total. Had an account there for 12 years, always used cheques so never experienced the telephone banking. Will be a nuisance but will change to another bank, I hear the smaller ones give better service.

Have had the worst ever experience trying to get a power of attorney in place on an account following a family bereavement. Numerous phone calls. Hours queuing and getting cut-off. Numerous branch visits by me and my sister. Still not sorted. Half of the staff in the branches don't understand the process. Their systems are totally unable to cope with recording correctly what is needed. Despite refilling forms a million times everything is still being sent to the wrong address. I'd close this account and move it if that wasn't even more work.

I was calling them yesterday concerning the card-reader has been locked out (due to their poor online banking service). And the even better thing happened was not only they did not help me at all in my online banking, but also locked my online account and telephone banking account. I phoned them just now, and they claim that they can not verify me (I gave the same information which I used last night, and that worked), and speak to me like I am a idiot. And repeat "photo ID" "photo ID" "photo ID" over the phone. Horrible customer service, horrible bank. Someone from the management team should really look into your customer service team. Otherwise, your bank will lose all your loyal customers eventually!
