Dec 22, 2022
Advertiser disclosure

Cash App does not require you to provide your social security number (SSN) to open an account or to use its send-and-receive money features. This is just one reason it is one of the most popular digital wallets in the United States.

However, if you do not provide your SSN to Cash App, you will remain an "unverified" user, limiting how much money you send and receive via the app. In this guide, we learn about these limits and how to take full advantage of Cash App's features.

One of the most popular peer-to-peer payment systems in the United States, Cash App is a secure way to transfer money domestically. With a verified account, you can transfer up to $7,500 weekly, receive unlimited transfers and direct deposits, deposit checks, and enjoy much more.

How To Use Cash App Without SSN

As an unverified user, you’re still able to send and receive a limited amount of money with Cash App. The limit for sending within a one-week period is $250 while the limit for receiving within a one-month period is $1,000.

Follow these steps when creating your Cash App account:

  1. Download Cash App for Android or iOS, or on the website;
  2. Enter your mobile number or email address;
  3. Enter the verification code that Cash App sends you;
  4. Enter your debit or credit card info to link your bank account;
  5. Enter your name and create a unique $Cashtag;
  6. Your unverified account will be active.

You can secure your account and unique $Cashtag by inputting the secret code that Cash App sends you at sign-up. However, this level of security will only allow you to send a maximum of $250 per week and receive a maximum of $1,000 per month. To become a verified user who unlocks Cash App's full list of features, you will need to provide your SSN.

Cash App Features For Verified Users Only

If you want to benefit from Cash App's banking and trading features, then you will be required to provide your SSN. Here's what you will be able to do once you verify your account with your social security number:

  • Transfer up to $7,500 each week;
  • Receive unlimited transfers and direct deposits;
  • Buy and sell stocks;
  • Trade cryptocurrency;
  • Use a Cash App card;
  • Get a tax refund,
  • Receive stimulus checks from the IRS;

Can You Use a Fake SSN for Cash App?

No, it is not possible to use a fake SSN on Cash App. Cash App and its parent company Block are financial platforms regulated by the U.S. federal government and the applicable laws. Cash App will run a cross-check to ensure that your SSN is real.

Avoid SSN for Cash App Scams

As one of the largest peer-to-peer payment systems in the United States with useful features, Cash App verification can be valuable. However, be aware of strangers selling "SSNs for Cash App" who claim to offer SSNs that perform Cash App verification. These will not work and may lead to the suspension of your account.
