Can I use Square Cash to send money Internationally?

A Square Cash transaction is only available in the US, but if you’re looking for the best service for your money transfers, compare your solutions on Monito.

Digital wallets have changed how we pay for things online and send money to our friends and family.  PayPal, Venmo and Skrill have revolutionized peer-to-peer payments, from the way we pay back a friend for a loan to how we split the bill at the end of a meal.

    First, what is Square Cash?

Square Cash is a way to to send money online. It’s an app called the “Cash app.” You don’t need the application to receive or send money (you can do this simply with email addresses), but if you want to request money you’ll need to download it.

If you do have the app, you can either cash out and deposit the money into your linked bank account, or keep it in the app for future transactions. You can set your preferences so that the money you’re sent automatically goes directly into your bank account. (FYI,  you can’t do this with PayPal and Venmo.)

Can I use the square cash Cash app internationally?

No. First, you have to be a resident of the US to set up an account. You also are unable to use it when you are outside of the United States and you can’t send money to people living outside the US, either. In fact, it is also unavailable in U.S. territories (such as the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and and Northern Mariana Islands).

So if I want to send money outside the US what are my options?

You've got many options. It depends on several factors--including where you want to send money, how you’d like the recipient to receive the funds and how much you want to send. Many companies offer international transfers via a desktop site or a mobile app and their exchange rates are generally far better than what's offered by banks, plus fees are often low and displayed prominently in a transparent fashion. Oh, and we provide money transfer provider reviews to help you make a confident, informed choice--a few examples of our reviews include TransferWise, WorldRemit, Remitly and Transfast.
