Cash App is one of the most popular digital wallets in the United States (and the UK). It also does not require you to provide an American social security number (SSN) to open an account or to use its send-and-receive money features.

However, many users in the Philippines may have trouble registering since the Cash App is designed for peer-to-peer use for residents in the United States and the United Kingdom. You must have a VPN and a US- or UK-issued debit card to access a Cash App account from the Philippines.

If you don't have both, we also show you alternative ways to access similar Cash App services, like peer-to-peer payments and US bank accounts.

One of the most popular peer-to-peer payment systems in the United States and the UK, Cash App is a secure way to transfer money domestically. If you at least have US residency status, you can still access Cash App in the Philippines with these items:

  • Express VPN: Consider this secure VPN provider to connect your IP address to the USA;
  • Majority: Consider the US-issued Visa debit card (if you have US residency).

How To Get Cash App in the Philippines

Cash App is intended for use from within the United States or the United Kingdom. It is a peer-to-peer payment system for domestic transfers within those countries. You may still be able to register for Cash App from the Philippines however.

You must have the following two items to access a Cash App account from the Philippines:

  1. A VPN (Virtual Private Network);
  2. A debit card issued in the US or the UK.

To get a US-issued debit card, you will need proof of US residency. If you want to trade on the US stock market with the Cash App, then you must provide a social security number too. A social security number is required because trading on the US stock exchange is regulated and taxed by the US government.

  2. Tap either "Request" or "Pay";
  3. Search for your friend's $Cashtag, phone number, or email;

Can You Use a Fake SSN for Cash App?

No, it is not possible to use a fake SSN on Cash App. Cash App and its parent company Block are financial platforms regulated by the U.S. federal government and the applicable laws. Cash App will run a cross-check to ensure that your SSN is real.

Avoid SSN for Cash App Scams

As one of the largest peer-to-peer payment systems in the United States with useful features, Cash App verification can be valuable. However, be aware of strangers selling "SSNs for Cash App" who claim to offer SSNs that perform Cash App verification. These will not work and may lead to the suspension of your account.

Why Does Cash App Need My SSN?

As a regulated financial service, Cash App requires Americans to enter their social security number to adhere to Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations. These established laws help prevent identity theft, money laundering, financial fraud, terrorism financing, and other financial crimes.

You may own US securities if you speak with a registered broker in the Philippines, such as an online broker that allows you to trade US stocks.

Another way is through ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) which are US dollar-denominated securities that represent ownership in the shares of a foreign company. Some Filipino banks also offer US stock trading through their online platforms. However, It is important to note that buying US stocks may be subject to certain regulations and restrictions in the Philippines and it is advisable to consult with a financial advisor or professional before making any investments.
