I recently subscribed to the official New York State Lottery using a US Bank credit card. I was boggled to see on my account the fees and interest associated with a cash advance rather than a purchase. I called US Bank where a rep told me that NY had filed the subscription as a cash advance. When I called the New York State Lottery, I discovered that the US Bank rep had not told me the truth. On its website, the Lottery states, "Please note that the Lottery does not charge any fees for using a credit card and processes the transaction as a purchase. However, some credit card companies assess fees or treat a lottery purchase as a cash advance. Subscribers should check with their credit card company or refer to their credit card agreement." I called US Bank again and had to reach a supervisor who finally agreed that it is "Bank policy" to treat all gambling charges, governmental or otherwise, as cash advances. Because I had not known of this policy, the supervisor expunged, in a one-time gesture, the cash advance fees and interest associated with my Lottery subscription.

This is a bank that writes on their main page that they care about non-profits and small businesses. Nothing could be further from the truth. Clearly ,they are interested in its bottom line and non-profits who get in the way are just run over. Their actions forced the non-profit to loose its offices and its only source of revenue. They offered no solutions, but instead said it's not our problem. STAy away from this bank if you are a non-profit or small business.
