Messed up credit ratings. I can get a loan else where which was unfortunate as halifax was my bank. They changed their over draft system which stung people like me too and doubled by 200% I had my credit card and long term loan else where as halifax would change their mind constantly on if I could or not.

Home Insurance? Why bother? I have been with Halifax for Home Insurance for several years. I have never had a claim. This year I suffered 2 leaks from the pipes, one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom. Because I live in a flat, I naively thought I would not require Buildings Insurance so that is entirely my fault. However, now that I come to claim for flooring damage following the leaks (which are stressful enough anyway), I was honest and gave them all the facts. It turns out, as it is 2 separate rooms it is 2 separate claims, so my total excess would be £1000.00. Honesty is clearly not the best policy. I am sure some people lie through their teeth, bump up claims and get everything back. I may as well not have bothered having insurance - throwing away all that money every month. I will not be renewing this year, going with another company. They seem happy to take your money, but put nothing but hurdles in your way when trying to get some of your hard-earned money back. The representatives on the phone have always been polite - it isn't their fault, they don't write the policy. They just happen to be on the end of the phone.

This is the worst bank. I am on a holiday in Czech Republic and this bank has blocked my bank account for a reason they won't tell me. I have informed the bank that I will be going on a holiday and they told me that everything is ok but now they have blocked all transactions and they won't unblock my bank account before I get to the Halifax branch and sort this out there. However, how am I able to get back to the UK with all my money beeing on my bank account?!?! This is horrible. Worst bank ever I am lost for words.

Like many people, I can only make the bank in my lunch hour. Needed to go in to show proof of my id, but the queue was over half hour and I still needed to be seen and get back to work, so kept having to leave and try again next lunch time. Day 3 I was next in the queue, and a member of staff came out, asked who's next, and put a lady who had started her own queue (of 2 ppl) next - I had 4 ppl behind me (so 5 of us in my/the queue). Which meant I prob wasn't going to get seen this lunch time so left, shocked at what happened, wrote a complaint online, just had a call from a very nice man from the complaints team. He was that nice, and has resolved my situation for me. Of course they can't take back what happened though, but he was that nice and helpful. After my experience with Halifax so far I didn't expect a person to contact me or be that lovely. Had to move away from my bank asap for husbands work reasons, so went to Halifax, was planning on leaving in a few months when I had time to get round to going through all this again/finding a different bank, but think I'll stay now!

My wife and I have had problems closing our Account with Halifax (we are resident in Spain now and we're told we could not have a UK account). Some months ago we went to Halifax but they only closed the Current account and not the savings account after much hassle. On 8th Aug we went into the Ballymena branch and spoke to Claire who closed the savings account within minutes without hassle. She was efficient but above all friendly and wanted to help. So 10 out of 10 for Claire but not Halifax.

The worst customer service ever! The person who picked up the phone had a very strong Scottish accent which was difficult to understand anyway - but that was not the problem here. I phoned them to help me sort out something simple but they just find barriers for everything! The woman I spoke to had no compassion, and after 40 minutes on the phone, it had still not been sorted! At the end I asked what I should do to solve my problem and they still couldn't give me a viable option. Please do not ever bank with Halifax - you do not ever want to have to experience their customer service.

Very poor in branch (and online) service. Tried to set up savers accounts for my 2 children online but the system could only cope with 1 child families! Left it for the stated 2 days but still the same problem. Visited the branch on multiple occasions to get an appointment but left after waiting 15 mins plus and no sign of the queues getting any less. Eventually got an appointment after a few weeks trying....but was still kept waiting on the day! The lady who I met was very pleasant, but the appointment ridiculously long (not her fault). She then had to join the (v long) queue with everyone else to make the opening deposit...so more waiting! I have now been here 1hr and am still waiting

customer service for mortgages is terrible. Wrong information, wrong paperwork and delays cost us money. No help even from complaints department, who didn't seemed bothered by the fact I was going to review them as soon as I got off the phone. If you are mad enough to go to them for a mortgage don't use Rachael, she doesn't call you back and when she emails it is the wrong info.

Really poor customer service on a number of occasions. Most recently their fraud department decided to decline my online transactions. They sent an email message saying they would call in 5 minutes to verify that I wanted to make the transactions. I didn't get a call so had to phone the main number to get the number for the fraud team, waited half an hour for them to answer. They said they don't call after 9 - so why email saying they will! I then had to answer 8 security questions. Said they had unblocked the account but they haven't as I still can't use the card. I don't have the time or energy to spend another hour on the phone to them trying to spend my own money. Utterly ridiculous for a routine transaction. Their customer service is rude and aggressive. Barclays are much better!!

Went into the local branch to make an appointment. The advisor asked me what I was making the appointment for in front of 6 people behind me although at that time I was not sure who was behind me and I told her what I was in for, yet she said she wanted more information although I gave her what she wanted - then she said that this was not enough by this time I was getting frustrated and getting my temper up this is when I turned round and seen the queue, after a heat discussion she went away and tried to speak with the person who I was wishing to make an appointment for ( I think she went away to calm herself down) and came back and said she was with another client and then went to make an appointment for me - all this fuss to make an appointment when she could have done this in the first place, when I left the branch I did hear her say to the next person who was behind me sorry for the wait, I turned round and said to them I hope you have not got to through this what I have just been given, talk about privacy. sorry not in this case. In future I will call the branch and make an appointment

Appalling. After almost 4 years with Halifax they decided there was a problem with the way the account was set up and made it impossible to set up new payees. After 5 phonecalls, literally hours on hold, repeated promises of callbacks that never came, and half a tree worth of pointless letters, they achieved precisely nothing, so i closed the account and set up with a bank that knows what they're doing. Halifax also have the longest waiting times of any organisation i've dealt with (possibly equal with HMRC), and their so-called 'complaint managers' sound like the work experience kids - they know nothing and are terrified of speaking to customers. They deserve to go out of business.

Having started a Kid's Saver some years ago, I notice that you cannot view it online using Internet Banking. I am fully aware that the account can only be managed in branch, but what justification can Halifax have in the secrecy of these accounts. It takes seconds to log in and view, but if you want to view the child's account you have the inconvenience of travelling to the branch plus possible waiting time for a member of staff. The interest rate is favourable, but I have awarded the one star rating for their insistence on not allowing you to view the account online. I also note that Halifax do not take their opportunity to respond to any comments made on this site, which speaks volumes for their commitment to customer services.

We moved home recently and were still in our 3% Early Repayment period. Due to this we decided to port our current mortgage as despite the interest rate being 1% higher they advised that we would not need to pay any ERC if we keep the current rate. It came to the day before completion and they sent the redemption statement to my solicitors claiming the full ERC. I called 3 times that day to explain that we should not be paying as we are porting. All 3 times I Was advised that yes I was correct and they would get an amended statement sent. I chased this constantly with Halifax and so did my solicitor but the statement never arrived so my solicitor had no choice but to settle including the ERC. I have now called them and have advised they will 'look into' a refund which will take 10 days! I had booked people to carry out work on the property with this money and have now had to cancel it all. Complained and not made a difference. I was advised that this is the 'Process' and it is very messy. If they had told me this at the start I may have just paid the ERC and taken out a much more competitive mortgage elsewhere. My worry about this 'Process' is that right up to the day of move we were 'promised' the ERC would not be taken. What if I needed this money for my deposit on my next property, I would be left in a whole load of trouble as the chain would collapse because I would not have enough money to purchase the onward property. I mentioned this to them and they just shrugged casually and said 'It's the process'. Would Halifax pay the tens of thousands of pounds that I would be liable for if the move collapsed! Unlikely... Where I work if a process does not work you fix it. I have Credit cards and mortgage with them and was considering a current account but after this I will be moving all my business away from them.

Poor bank go over drawn by a few pounds get charged £5 a day I get paid every two weeks they send a text to say I get charged £10 on the 3rd of may then two months later they take £50 on the 3rd of July for unplanned over draft fees when I hadn't been overdrawn through that time it back dated from the 3rd of may their rates say they take no more than £100 a month for fees and they take it the next month if it's over £100 I'm sorry but taking £10 when it should of been £60 especially as the money was there back then you should take what is owed rather than take £50 two months later and cause me to go overdrawn very poor bank take money when it suits them not when they should just so they can sit on their arses and charge you more fees of your hard working money

Dishonest thieves. I deposited £2000 into this bank having sold my motorbike. No sooner did I leave the branch the cashier withdrew the money with a "correction" and put in £200. When challenged about a month or so later having checked online I realised the error and checked with the bank as my login details didn't work. They totally refused claiming the cashier was adamant that I only deposited £200. He made the mistake with the "0" on the end. Tried to call me but I didn't answer apparently. Ombudsman checked, no CCTV and accounts audit balance was correct so I am wrong apparently. Avoid, thieves...

I went into my local Halifax and having been on holiday I did not have my Halifax card with me.I was asked for i d. I gave over my Danske bank card and my M&S credit card. They told me this was no good it needed to be photographic. I did not have any photographic i d with me. I would have been able to tell them what dd went from my account and for how much, still was no use and as a result I am now overdrawn on my account. I am disabled and do not be in town very often. Would not wish this bank on my worst enemy.

I have just had my distress elderly disabled sister telephone .A company phoned recently per porting to be from the telephone preference service .They did not ask for the long card number on her debit card but asked for the expiry date and three digit code number She was assured no money would be taken from her account.She was worried and phoned me I told her to telephone her Halifax bank fraud department.The gentleman reassured her she hadn't given too much info but arranged for a new card to be issued to be safe.She has now noticed a direct debit for a company called Zoomtelecom .She contacted Halifax who said she must contact Zoom Telecom .Zoom Telecom have said she agreed in a phone call .Halifax have said they cannot deal with getting her money back.Shame on them !

Have a credit card with halifax. Absolutely the worst card i have had with a bank, security features do not let you make transactions before confirming you are making transactions. Always denies the transaction leaving you redfaced and embarassed and having to wait for theor silly security feature. No idea why we bailed these lot out should be shut down! Customer service absolutely useless and think this is normal. I have 5 other cards woth other banks and companies never have this issue and make regular transactions on them. DO NOT GET THIS CARD! DO NOT BE DUPED BY THEIR SILLY OFFERS STAY AWAY!!!

Hi Direct debit guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on. This is the first time in decades I have been with the Halifax and I made my first complaint: They said there is nothing they can do and refused to send me list of reasons for a refund. it seems to be a MI 6 type of secret for national security. I spoke to the manager Ian Mason on 17/7/17 2.46 pm and he refused to send me a list of valid reasons. He said that the only time you would get a refund if the the supplier made an error. So if the supplier takes your money and provides nothing in return he said that is a dispute and not refundable. Also the Halifax kept locking my account many times when I made a payment for a purchase. Even small ones. Then I had to go to the branch with the ID details to be reinstated after about an hour there. Regards
