I have been a loyal NAB customer for over ten years and have never had a problem with their services until recently. Upon taking a job offer in Beijing (China) I went to my local branch to ask banking/financial advice to which I was recommend to set up a NAB travelers card for small purchases and assured I could transfer larger amounts to and from my account I set up in China using the international transfer option. However, after my arrival in Beijing I needed a large sum of money to pay for a apartment (rent is paid 3months in advance plus deposit and agent fee in China) and proceeded with the International transaction. It was not until four whole days after the initial transaction was made that I was informed that the transaction details were incomplete and I immediately amended them. I also specifically notified the operator that it was a matter of emergency and if she could kindly note that on the amended transaction message; to which she responded in an unamused voice that she would. Four days later I went to my bank in China and to my dismay NAB had still not relayed the correct information to them. At this stage I was paying full-price rates at a hotel which my company in Beijing was suppose to book for me at discounted rate, and my funds were depleting fast. In fact it came to the stage where upon returning to my hotel I was locked out of my room (Where my belongings were, passport, laptop, etc.) and asked to pay for the time that I had overstayed; which I couldn't as I didn't have the money on me. I had to spent the night on the streets of Beijing awaiting the next day for emergency funds that my family put into my account that night. I immediately called NAB the next day and informed them of my situation and asked them of the progress of my transfer, every time having to go through the security process and being put on hold; which cost me 50rmb each time. At one point one of the operators even laughed as I told him I spent the night sleeping on the streets of Beijing; which is a potentiality dangerous situation for a foreigner as it is considered an offense and that you can be arrested for. Later I spoke to another operator who at the end of our call informed me that I could contact 'Visa Assistance' for emergency funds, however I had previously been advised by NAB staff in Australia to leave my Visa Debit card at home and only bring my NAB (MasterCard) travelers card. After many expensive phone calls later and waiting until the next day I manage to talk to an operator who called the international transfer team, who then confirmed with me that the transfer information was only just now being processed (as if I didn't call and press the issue it would have taken longer). I immediately called my bank in Beijing to confirm and they informed me they would process it asap but there would still be a short waiting period. I will certainly never use NAB for an international transfer ever again and in fact warn and strongly advise anyone against it. Joel

It is a good bank if you do only online banking. If you need to apply for any products - never deal with NAB. Poor customer service, incompetent staff. I am talking about their sales department. They make simple mistakes in your application and there is no way to correct it. As the mistake should be corrected by person who does not work anymore there. They just offer to send him email to contact me. How stupid it is! I just feel sorry for all my time that I wasted with them

Between my.hysband and i we have been trying to resolve issue with our mortage. Continually fobbed off to the next person. Have been with this bank for many years but it has lost any credibility. Cannot close account and mortage quick enough. Poor example of what Australia business are about.

Worst bank - brain dedad and no management

No point complaining, nobody at the bank reads or cares and even if they did nobody has any authority to do anything. I agree about the broken call...Mehr

No point complaining, nobody at the bank reads or cares and even if they did nobody has any authority to do anything. I agree about the broken call centre chimps endlessly bouncing people around and getting nothing done. Their management hides behind an impenetrable wall on the theory they are so smart they don't need to listen as they know everything. Just look at their share price for the net outcome and the silent chorus of customer screams. Seriously, I get better service in the old communist country Belarus, I'm not making this up.

I dealt with them for personal banking and the business I worked for used them also. They're so bad. Some of the worst customer service I've ever...Mehr

I dealt with them for personal banking and the business I worked for used them also. They're so bad. Some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. They will put you on hold forever and then transfer you from department to department and ultimately disconnect you. Westpac on the other hand whom I also deal with will stay with you as they transfer you and you're always off the phone within just a few minutes.
