YOU ARE BETTER KEEPING YOUR MONEY UNDER A MATTRESS THEN GIVING IT TO THESE GUYS TO KEEP "SAFE". THIS BANK RANDOMLY STOPPED SENDING MY STATEMENTS, THEY RANDOMLY BLOCK ALL ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT AND DO NOT GIVE ME ANY PRIOR NOTICE IN DOING SO. I WAS STRANDED WITH NO MONEY AND NO PHONE. I WENT TO AN ATM THE MACHINE DID NOT WORK ASKING ME TO CALL MY "BANK" I CALLED THIS MESS OF A "BANK" WHEN I FINALLY GOT HOME REGARDING WHY MY CARD HAD BEEN BLOCKED, AFTER APPARENTLY GAINING ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT, THE WOMAN THEN STATED SHE COULD NOT HELP ME AT ALL, AND THAT SHE COULD ALSO NOT ACCESS ANYTHING ELSE THE ONLY NOTES LEFT ON MY ACCOUNT WERE THAT I HAD TO GO TO THEIR BRANCH.... I THEN WENT TO THEIR BRANCH THE FOLLOWING DAY (TODAY) I WAS SEEN BY A GENTLEMAN WHO WAS ACTING BIZARRELY SMILING TO HIMSELF IN A SINISTER MANNER WHILST ACCESSING MY ACCOUNT, HE THEN MADE A PHONE CALL AND SAID 'SHALL I TAKE THIS CALL IN THE BACK', THEN TOLD ME TO GO TAKE A SEAT FAR AWAY SO I WOULD NOT HEAR THE CONVERSATION REGARDING MY ACCOUNT!!! MIND YOU THEY HAVE MY PHOTO ON THEIR SYSTEM AND ALSO I HAD MY PASSPORT AND CARD WITH ME ALL PROOFS SHOWING I AM THE CARDHOLDER! AFTER A FEW MINUTES HE CLICKED AWAY AT HIS COMPUTER, CAME OVER AND TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT FOR A LETTER TO COME TO MY HOUSE REGARDING AN "ACTION". WHAT TYPE OF RUBBISH IS HE TALKING ABOUT, I COME FROM A LEGAL BACKGROUND, I USE MY ACCOUNT LEGALLY AND ONLY FOR SPENDING PURPOSES, THERE IS ZERO REASON TO BLOCK MY ACCOUNT THEN ACT-SO CONSPICUOUS REGARDING WHAT IS HAPPENING WHEN QUESTIONING WHAT IS HAPPENING HE SAID HE COULD TELL ME NOTHING, I KEPT ASKING QUESTIONS HE JUST COMPLETELY ACTED LIKE HE KNEW NOTHING AND TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT FOR A LETTER WHICH WOULD COME BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK... HE EXPECTS ME TO WAIT A WEEK WITH NO ACCESS TO MY MONEY, HOW WILL I EAT? TRAVEL? LIVE MY LIFE? GO TO WORK?? I HAVE APPOINTMENTS MADE 6 MONTHS PRIOR HOW WILL I TRAVEL TO THEM WITH NO FUNDS?? I THEN ASKED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER, THE MANAGER STATED SHE COULD NOT TELL ME SINCE SHE DID NOT KNOW, SHE ALSO STATED I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE LETTER, I THEN ASKED WELL WHAT TYPE OF ACTION IS IT HAS SHE DEALT WITH OR SEEN THIS BEFORE? SHE STATED IT WAS EITHER DUE TO 3 THINGS: 1- BIZZARE MONEY GOING OUT OF MY ACCOUNT PERHAPS SOMEONE ELSE USING IT (WHICH IS A LIE AS THEY SHOULD CALL ME OR EMAIL ME OR WRITE A LETTER IMMEDIATELY- THEY DID NOT) 2- THEY WANT TO CLOSE MY ACCOUNT (ALSO NOT TRUE SINCE I HAVE DONE NOTHING- NEVER OVER-DRAFTED ETC OR BORROWED) 3- THEY WANT TO ASK WHERE THE MONEY HAS COME FROM (ALSO NOT TRUE SINCE ALL MONEY HAS BEEN FROM WORK AND I HAVE HAD PROOF OF IT) THIS BANK IS RIDICULOUS, THEIR BEHAVIOUR IS DISGUSTING, THEY HAVE TAKEN MY MONEY THAT I WORKED HARD FOR AND NOT BEEN ABLE TO TELL ME WHY THEY HAVE BLOCKED ACCESS TO MY MONEY AND MY ACCOUNT LEAVE THIS BANK, DO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS BANK, IT IS NOT SECURE, IT DOES NOT LOOK AFTER IT'S CUSTOMERS, AFTER AROUND 5 YEARS THIS BANK HAS DISGUSTED ME WITH HOW IT HAS TREATED ME YESTERDAY AND TODAY! WORST BANK EVER!!! AVOIDD a foreign student in my uni asked me if i could collect funds for him through my account so he could buy a ticket back to his country. I received the funds for him in my account, gave him his money and the next day metro logged me out of my mobile app when I tried to send money to a payee. Spoke to a metro bank representative and he was so rude and told me theres a review on my account and i don't have access to my hard earned money until the review is over. How am i supposed to eat or travel without my account. The most stupidest bank I've ever banked with. they even told me to wait for a letter in the post when they could have just told me over the phone what the problem was. SH*TESTTTTTTTT AND DUMBEST BANK TO BANK WITH!!! AVOID!!!! and they never give customers overdraft, they charge 10 pound each time your direct debit fails. BROKE A** BANK

Don't think of it as a bank more like an old-fashioned Post Office savings account. They are simply incapable of doing the things that you would expect a bank to be able to do. Avoid.

I was with Lloyds Bank before moving to Metro and got an overdraft. When I moved to Metro and requested the same overdraft, I got refused. Same conditions different treatment. Even after few months, Metro Bank always refused the overdraft. They also performed unrequested credit check on my account for no reason after I withdraw the request for overdraft. I am very disappointed. Worst bank in the UK!!

Their security checks for opening accounts must be virtually non existent because I have just received a letter specifying a “magic word” password to authorise the account I have supposedly opened. I’ve never contacted them so a fraudster has breezed through their ID checks. My postbox is communal but luckily I saw the mail arrive. Otherwise the fraudster could simply have laid in wait to to intercept the letter and I would have been none the wiser until the thief had been on a spending spree. I contacted them to be told “this is happening a lot at the moment” !!! Certainly doesn’t inspire much confidence and not much fun for those who will suffer the aggravation of being scammed

On the 16th of December I noticed that £4.075.75 was missing from my bank account and was in my pending file. I checked my history and found that 8 payments were made which I couldn’t explain. 6 payments were made on the 14th of December and 2 on the 15th of December which couldn’t be explained. I rang Metronbanks customer service line and explained this to the representative who said he was going to cancel my debit card and that I should go to a branch and get a new one . I asked the representative how didn’t the banks security did flag up the unusual spending pattern as all 8 payments were not usual??? He replied that he didn’t know and told me that the fraud team would contact me on Monday which never happened. On Monday the 18th of December went into the Wood Green store and after waiting for some time was lead to w seat and a young lady issued a new debit card . Again I asked the question how comes the banks system didn’t flag up the unusual spending pattern yet again was told they didn’t know . I asked when I’m going to get my money back and again told I don’t no . I push the lady and said that this is not good enough to which she replied “ how do we know you didn’t spend it yourself and claim it back “ and again was told the fraud team will call me on Tuesday . I walked out so upset and angry that I was accused of stealing my own money . Again the Freud team didn’t call . I rang customer service on the Tuesday and was transferred to the Freud teams receptionist and all the questions which I previously asked and again told they would call on the Wednesday which again never happened and couldn’t tell me why security didn’t notice the frued !! Again phoned customer service on the Wednesday and was told that the representative had IM the frued team as you can’t call them direct and that I should’ve been told it takes 5 working days for them to contact me and he apologised several times and he was the most helpful and more understanding than anyone else On Thursday 21st of December at about 7pm went shopping in Morrison’s supermarket and tried to pay for some items and my debit card was declined 3 times , didn’t understand this as had £280 in my account so again rang customer service and ask why my card had been declined and was told I needed to take ID into one of there stores to which I replied why when my new card was issued on the Monday in the Wood Green branch I had done this already to which the reply was I don’t know it’s just what the system says with no explanation, I asked to speak to a manager who told me the same thing . I walked out of the store with no shopping and so embarrassed as the shop was full of people looking at me like I stole the card . The next day 22th December I stormed into Wood Green again and asked to speak to a manager as wanted answers and was told the store manager wasn’t in today but a floor manager would help me when available. After waiting for some time was again lead to a seat and I asked why I had to show ID and why. My card was declined the day before to which was told that I didn’t have to show ID but needed to change my 12 digit customer number , I asked why that wasn’t done on the Monday when I came in and why Metronbank didn’t just call me and recommend that I do this and not embarrass me in the supermarket the day before ??? Again the response was I don’t know. They changed my customer number and I then asked about there security and the fraud team not calling customers and when I was getting my money back and told the lady that I wasn’t going to leave the store without answers. She IM the fraud team asking them to call the store to talk to me . The phone rang and the lady passed the phone to me and spoke to a man from the fraud team who claimed that one of the banks customer service team claimed that I had said I made one of the payments and it had been sent to a higher investigationand he was wait for phone records but as it was a different department his hand were tied . I told him under no time did I make that statement and that I needed my money back as I have rent and bills to pay . He told me he was going to give me my money back but I’d still be under investigation. My money was returned that afternoon. Metronbank lie to customers, accuse you of stealing,security is crap and none excitant as it’s very clear the spending pattern was unusual. This is the pattern 14th December £1 vertbaudet 1p Experian 1p Experian Then £2.009 money transfer £1.506.75 money transfer £501 Azimo 15th December £26.49 Mobiletopup £26.49 Mobiletopup At no time have I ever used these services and pay my mobile phone by direct debit every month . I complained to the bank as I was angry and upset with the lack of customer service and accused me of doing this

My account and my cards stopped working because the customer services wanted me to visit their shop to change my credentials. What a lack of information, respect and somebody's time.

I went to the Croydon branch. I lady with a nasty face looked at me in a very bad way when I asked for opening an account. I felt bad with the whole thing. I was looking around and the cashiers looked like bar attendants, everything is too friendly and overcrowded and none seems to be doing anything, there is no organisation. I looked again at them, they are like in a party. I was thinking: "Do I really need to do business with this people?" I waited for 30 minutes. I was told that there were 4 people before me. I saw people coming in after me and being attended. I got peeved and I left. I opened an account online with NatWest. I prefer the known British banks: NatWest, Barclays, Santander, Lloyds, TSB, HSBC, The Cooperative Bank. Metro seems like a joke. No thanks.

My investment company has had a secondary account with Metro for some years. I just use it to park surplus money when I have more than the FSCS limit of £85,000 on hand. We formed a trading subsidiary and wanted to open a simple current account. No credit required. No cash transactions. One main customer, a professional firm in which I used to be a partner, paying a consultancy fee of a few thousand pounds a month How difficult can that be? Too difficult for Metro, it seems. I should have clocked there was going to be a problem when they asked what a subsidiary was. No - really. From then it just kept going downhill. Innumerable irrelevant questions. Such as what was my hourly charge-out rate? Two hours into the interview and 20 minutes after I’d been assured that “we’re almost finished” (20 minutes spent sitting silently in front of the employee while he tapped at his keyboard) I asked how much longer. “Only about 15 or 20 minutes” he said. “Don’t bother,” I said; “I’m off.” Sad thing was, he seemed genuinely surprised. Nice enough bloke but completely undertrained and unlucky enough to be employed by a bank which has absolutely no idea how to cope with a business account. Complete amateurs. New approach to banking? Give me the old approach every time: flashy branches and free treats for the dog just don’t cut it, guys.

I heard nothing after 60 minutes so I returned and was told that they were still busy and I wouldn’t be seen before they closed. Got my bank account frozen after I tried to purchase my boyfriend a birthday gift at harrods. Was told on the phone in the store that NO metro bank customer can shop at harrods because both parties security systems do not like eachother which is a lie since I’ve worked with fraud myself in my home country. Called them back when I got home and got to speak with the most idiotic woman who barely spoke English, had to say one word at a time slowly for her to understand me. Was told to go to a branch because of a inwards payment of 260 pounds to explain where it came from to my account 2 weeks prior, mind you my card had been working fine until I tried to buy the gift at harrods. Came to the branch, put down evidence that it was me, myself and I personally that had sent the money to MYSELF through PayPal. But all I got told was that my account is under review and that I need to wait. I asked them twice returning to the branch how long this would take first they told me that they would call me back on Monday ( I was there Friday) on Monday, no call. I went there again and was told that they don’t know when my review will be finished. So how am I supposed to eat metro bank?! How am I suppose to get to work?? Is my life worth shutting down over 200 pounds? You inbred idiots! Avoid at ALL costs! The employees both in the office and Call center are not educated, probably never got through school either don’t trust them with your finances.

Metrobank! Almost lost my sanity. Went in at 8 one rainy cold morning to open a business bank account and left at midday! claiming the account was opened and everything was all good. 4 weeks later (from the promised few hours) they invite me to come pick the cards at the branch which I did and the account was then active. While im using the account, at my busiest period of the year, I receive a random call another month later that they are blocking the account because I need to provide another two proofs of address. (Bare in mind all this I thought was finished, since i had provided all necessary documents and the account was active) I tell them to be considerate. and that they cant randomly call me up to block my account as I would produce a bank statement from my personal bank (which would take 5 days) and it was all in vain. They blocked the account!! Clients could not pay money, I could also not pay out any expenses!! For over two weeks... crazy! Later on, I provide the statement and the staff are still rude and still tell me to wait for the account to be unblocked which would also take a while. And this is the story of how I missed my biggest account! and a few other clients whose payments I could not take, which affected my cash flow. Meanwhile, as the account was blocked, I had applied with barclays which shockingly took just 7 days to get my account created and I cant wait to move over all the funds to Barclays and begin my business life with them.

Arrogant manager refused to help as I had used atm machine which swallowed my with drawal of 60 pounds within 5 seconds of dispensing it ,he was patronising ,unhelpful and extremely unpleasant ...made all the more ridiculous as he was wearing a cheap santa hat whilst failing to do the job he is probably highly paid to do ...the banks incompetence means my own bank has to raise a dispute to chase my money (they said metro bank notorious for not refunding without a fight ) thank god for barclays superb ,reassuring customer service skills ...ooh and the basildon branch manager is a liar ..it is now 2 25 pm ..over 24 hours since his branch kept MY money ,yet he clearly stated that I would have cash reinstated into my account In 24 hours ...still waiting LIAR !!

I opened a savings account about a year ago, I wanted an account that didn't have a card, so I would need to go in to take money out, So far I have used the internet banking to check my balance, I have transferred money into the account, but the best thing is the magic Mike coin counting machine, I use this a lot, I only use two local branches and they were over the top with their customer service, however as the staff have got used to seeing me I just get a good morning now all that I need. I summing up, they are a great Bank for simple account, as I don't have a current account I can't comment

This is a Rogue and Corrupt bank. I am myself a retired banker with 30 years experience as Head of Risk and Compliance. My son recently opened an Euro account and I was foolish to think this bank can handle currency accounts. Don't be fooled by their marketing! To cut the story short, they asked him to go to the ATM to bring £10 note which was very odd, then the transfer of 5000 euros we made was blocked, then returned to a sender that they refused to nominate and then we made many complaints. As today, we are bringing criminal charges against the CEO , bringing to Court to try to recover our money. This is a Very Rogue Organization, i would not recommend it even to my enemies.

I am extremely disappointed and frustrated we have been totally left in hardship because of metrobank!! My husband who has been a long standing customer at the bank is being treated like a criminal without any good reason! He recently became self employed and received a loan from a close friend, in order to help him, the loan was transferred from his friend’s account directly to his metrobank. When my husband tried to withdraw some of the money unfortunately he came across the MOST difficult, unhelpful and rudest manager EVER (Charlie) at Holburn branch. He was told to carry out further transactions through online banking system. He went away and called customer service in order to get the help required. However, it was then that he was told his account was now suspended!!! @metro_bank are holding his money pending proof of where the money came from, yesterday he spent most of the day at Kensington branch where he opened the account providing documents from both his and his friend who had to provide them with his personal information proving the money is legal. Today he is still WAITING although they have all documention they requested, the staff cannot tell him anything and he has explained he cannot take care of daily expenses for our family! Our rent is due as are other expenses, we have been left out of pocket paying for parking and missing most of the days work trying to sort this out. HOW CAN THIS BANK BE ALLOWED TO TREAT INNOCENT PEOPLE THIS WAY!! This is truly OUTRAGEOUS AND COMPLETELY UNFAIR AND UNACCEPTABLE TREATMENT!

I have had numerous farcical dealings with Metro Bank which I don't have time (or energy) to list today but two of my main gripes are this; in today's busy world when I want to make any transfers from our Euro's or Dollars account I cannot do it online, it has to be done over the phone. I dread phoning them as it takes a minimum of 20 minutes every single time I call. When we 'upgraded' to an account which allowed us to do it online (website is different and looks like a 5yr old built it), it meant we couldn't use the banking app on our phones as it wasn't advanced enough so we then had to go through the pain of transferring back again!! My second gripe are the banking fees which are outrageous - at least Richard Turpin (it wouldn't allow me to write the abbreviated version!) had the courtesy to wear a mask when he was robbing his victims blind. We will be using our Nat West account in future which will be a big upheaval but the pain will be worth it just to regain my sanity.....

I have recently registered a new company and was looking for a bank to provide a business account. My personal account has been run without incident over the last 30 years but as it is with a High Street building society they were unable to assist as they are not allowed to provide business banking facilities . Metro Bank have recently opened a branch in Peterborough and I went in to enquire about opening a business account . I was seen by a young girl who assured me that all I needed to do was return at any time ( no appointment necessary) with a list of documents relating to the company formation and the standard proof of identity paperwork . I duly did this the following day and was told that I would need to make an appointment . I made the appointment for two days later and duly turned up on time and with my file of papers. I was then told that the person I needed to see was currently engaged but should be free in the next five minutes. About twenty minutes later I was then seen by someone who announced himself as a Manager , he apologised that his colleague was still engaged but that he would be delighted to assist. Incidentally the person I was booked in to see would be engaged for a further 40 minutes ! Any way I went through the meeting with the Manager which seemed to go well until he announced that he would need to get the application signed off by of his Managers . I duly waited for his return some 10 minutes later when he reappeared with his fellow Manager who started asking me lots of questions of which none were her business to ask. She then said she wanted to do some research into the business idea before authorising any further action. I then had a further telephone conversation with her the following day in which she advised that she couldn't take the application forward as I needed to provide proof of an active website and indemnity insurance before the bank would consider opening an account ! I explained that it would actually be more sensible to open the account , put lots of money into it and then utilise those funds for the website and insurance. However it appears that common sense and Metro Bank are a very long away apart ! I am a Lawyer, I have practised in Peterborough for many years and I have to say that in all that time I have never experienced such woeful and inept customer service. My meeting was conducted next to a window fronting onto a busy pedestrian street , I saw work colleagues and clients passing by and the whole interview would have been audible by people nearby. Quite clearly I should have read the reviews on here before setting foot in the place ! Avoid at all costs !

Walked into Milton Keynes branch and after 40 mins walked out with my new current account setup, and a debit card with my PIN number. 30 mins after that logged into online banking at home and installed the mobile app. Speedy, simple and efficient thanks.

Went into the Bromley Branch to open an account for our 5 year old successful business. A guy at the door who looked like an employee but behaved like a security guard started asking me silly questions. I am over sixty and director of the company. I was so upset about his behaviour that I decided not to proceed. Looking at the reviews here, I think I have done the correct thing!

Where does one start? Having opened an account some years ago, when majority of British Banks were in a turmoil, and Metro appeared as a breath of fresh air for the Customers. (My main account thank god is with a major British Bank). My experience with this Band of Ammature's who claim to be a British Bank, and Banker's, has been one big farce! Having no appointment system in place is really annoying,as over the years I have had to endure long queues, coupled with empty promises, as to when I will be seen.This is for simple Banking queries !! As and when I have had to complain, this has met with incompetent staff, not to say the Managers whom I believe have been recruited from non Financial Institutions, and fail to understand basic Banking Concepts, I am sorry to add. A recent complain of mine,relating to customer service, and abrupt behavior of staff, to a customer that I had introduced fell on deaf years, and was a real blow to myself. I just wish Metro Bank would not rank itself so highly, in Britain as it is evident from reading the numerous complaints from existing customers whom for one reason or another have expressed disgust with the new entrant who's customer service, and client service rank below that which is expected. My true feeling is that all that shines is not gold, and not to be fooled into opening up a bank account with this Bank of jokers.

A truly shocking experience with this bank! UPDATE: Since posting this review we have now been contacted by email by the CEO and a Regional Director of Commercial Banking so I can only suggest you watch this space to see how well they retrieve the situation. Having only been a business customer for less than a month with this shambles of an organisation our account was targeted by fraudsters who managed to steal £7,000.00. But if the fraud wasn't bad enough Metro Bank's customer service after the event was terrible. The following litany of poor communications reads like the ABC of how not to treat your customers. 1. Unanswered emails. 2. Telephone calls not returned 3. No response from the CEO 4. Promised actions not carried out 5. Lacklustre and lackadaisical staff response Our next course of action is to call contacts in the Financial Press. Potential Business Customers - you have been warned!
