Absolutely terrible, Tooting branch, over 30 customers waiting, manager no where to be seen, young new chap left to deal all customers, he is unable even to use a till. No one is to be found, no apology, no cash machines working inside, this branch has got to be the worst branch, non professional and in fact non acceptable, they deserve customers to go to others branches. The manager of this branch should be ashamed of how they have dealt with this and general running of this branch, you are waiting at the best of times.

This is how Halifax refuses a mortgage and still rips you off. For 3 weeks Halifax kept asking me for a different document at a time, it eventually got to the point when there wasn't anything else they could ask so they started asking for documents I had already sent. It became obvious them that they wouldn't lend me any money and that's when they finally decided to send a valuator to see the flat. This "valuation" cost me £500 and I had paid for it at the beginning of the application almost a month before. What I got from it was an incomplete template, with unfilled gaps and a refusal to lend based on saleability without an explanation whatsoever. My mortgage advisor contacted them and he was told this was due to a wine bar near the building. That would understandable except that there isn't a single bar anywhere close to the building. Beware!

I have to wait ages in their branch queues, the ATMS work 80% of the time, i cannot register for PAYM services becaus its down. THEY ARE A TOTAL DISGRACE !

I went to Halifax, One Stop Shopping Centre, Perry Barr, Birmingham and deposited £2000 with cashier as I do not trust the electronic machines. However the moment I walked out the store he changed the account with a "correction" to £200 and claimed this is what I had deposited and not £2000. Complaint made to the bank who asked the employee and believes their staff and told me case is closed. Absolute thieves. Avoid as much as possible otherwise you are always wrong.

My wife was trying to make a purchase for me as a 70th birthday present, this "company" (an insult to the name company) stopped the transaction climing a £400 purchase on John Lewis website was unusual. Instead of ringing her they rang me to tell me about my surprise birthday gift. To make matters worse I am a throat cancer sufferer and explained to them I had limited voice, they gave me two choices, carry on and talk and answer a load of questions, which I did, despite discomfort or let my wife know of the issue and rob me of the chance to pretend I did not know about the surprise. I am all for on line security, but this company has the sensitivity of a Great White Shark. They want your money, but beyond that dont expect a lot.

Tried to make purchase on line via a legitimate uk company, card rejuceted. Phoned Halifax and passed the lower level security questions but I failed the ambiguous higher level of questioning. Now I'm blocked completely! And I have to go to the not so local branch with photo ID to unblock my own account! Their security protocols are incorrectly set and not propertionate at all. They couldn't even tell me what the original issue was. Pretty poor. Great card, shame about the customer service.

Halifax sent me a letter regarding 0% APR for my credit card. I had few plans for summer so i desided to go for it. Everything i had to do was call them to confirm it. I made 3 calls in total in order to confirm it, then check if it had been activated and to make sure i understood everything correctly as in where and what i could use it for. A month later i received a charge for using the service. Basically if i understood right, for every £100 that I borrowed i had to pay £1 a month. So it works out the same as a 6% APR if i use it for six month. I haven't noticed anything about the charge in the letter nor had anyone told me about it over the phone . I was a bit suspicious about this from the beginning and i was asking a lot of questions. I called halifax again and the lady said that i can't expect the bank to give me money for nothing ☺ So now i have to find and give all money back asap to avoid charges. Thank you Halifax!

this company is a joke i ordered a new card and made sure my phone number is registered on there computer this morning i tried to do a online transcation blocked numerous times told me ring up so i did then i passed all the security questions by a automated bot or person then a stupid question it said type in the token you recieved from the voicemail message i never got call of them?? even though the phone number is right went in the halifax my card isnt blocked nice woman ordered me a new card i didnt want to go through the fuss pf having my card not being used online its my money and not the halifax looks like they want you to keep every last penny in your account so they can gamble on wall street with it joke company go else where

They are dealing with the second fraud case (in the last 12 months) on my debit card. The fraud took place in the UK but I live in Africa so I have spent lots of money phoning them about it. My call often gets lost in the queue, and they will never phone you even if you have already spent 20 minutes waiting to talk to them. About 25 transactions have gone through which were nothing to do with me and it is very confusing to trace. To make matters worse they never even write to me when there is a development in the case or give you any information at all. First of all the operator messed up the refunds and refunded genuine transactions which meant that I got in trouble with amazon who suspended my account. Halifax have recently redebited all the genuine transactions, but they also redebited fraudulent ones, without telling me they had done it or why. The whole saga has cost me many hours, loads of money on lengthy phone calls - they never phone you of course! - and I still have been cheated out of of money by criminals and the halifax have failed to protect me and my money for the second time in a year. I hate the halifax with passion and I would never recommend them to anyone. A terrible terrible bank which treats customers like dirt. I cannot even bring myself to phone them about this. It will cost me even more money and I am sure they will further disappoint me and let the criminals keep doing what they do. I wish my mortgage were with another bank. Stay away.

I cannot believe how bad their customer service is! I have been online and telephone banking for years with First Direct with no problems. I have had a Halifax ISA which I have paid into regularly for the last 6 years or so. Trying to get the money out is simply impossible. I have spent over 2 hours doing it or trying to do it. The website is not working won't accept sort code. Customer service is appalling. Put your money elsewhere if you ever want to take it out.

Had an issue with an order/delivery gone wrong and the company not guaranteeing a refund. Called up my bank to see what my options are in regards to stopping the payment coming out. Don't remember the name of who I spoke to but she was really lovely and understanding of the problem and advised me that if they take the money they'll be able to dispute it and definitely get the money back. Only leaving this review because she was so nice about it.

Do not invest or give time to this bank they are the worst uneducated un illiterate people ever!!!!! They could not stop a payment in error dispite me phonning them in minutes of finding out i became a victim of a scam . The money had not yet even hit the account still pending yet these basterd payed the account who i dont know £1720 and waited till the person withdrew it to leave nothing in the account despite my warning!!. Not only did this perthetic bank credidted it and now they say "we cant recall it as theres nothing in that account! looks like they have withdrawn it "

I've been impressed with Halifax. I have a current account, credit card and regular saver with them and checking them all is seamless and easy on the phone app. The customer service I receive at the branch near Liverpool Street is spot on too. Since 2009 when I signed up I've benefitted from over £400 in rewards in addition to the £120 switching bonus. Naturally it's a bit disappointing to lose out on some of the £5 current account and credit card weekly reward. Halifax does let itself down with its junior savers. The rates are good but clearly aimed at trapping you in a poor rate after the initial rate expires. And they make you jump through many needless hurdles to open them to the point of wanting to give up. Overall though my banking works smoothly with Halifax and I'm richer as a result of the rewards. Oh, and the Clarity credit card is simply AMAZING for holidays.

Awful bank, they make errors, they don't correct them, they have customer service that don't know what they're doing and have to speak to their manager to give any answer. Their error resulted in them repeatedly sending my credit card to a wrong address. This is clearly a big security concern. Halifax have not been helpful sorting this out and still have the wrong address for me on their system. I will be closing my account with them.

I work in a call centre myself currently, so feel qualified to state that the Customer Service received on today's call to Halifax was appalling. I called regarding a relatively simple matter and ended up being transferred 3 times, speaking to 4 different operators, having to answer the same security questions at least twice, with no notes being passed between operators and spending an hour and half on the phone on my day off. This was compounded by poor phone etiquette - agents saying 'what' instead of 'pardon', agents talking over me, not listening, answering a different question to that asked, cold transfers, refusing to address my expressions of dissatisfaction, etc., etc. The whole structure is in serious need of re-working. Agents were completely clueless about even the basics outside of their own department. For a massive bank like Halifax to have such a poor telephone service is unacceptable. The whole thing needs re-working from the ground up.

The most unprofessional, misguided, shambolic joke of a bank I have ever encountered! Thank god I don't bank with them. My partner does. Unprofessional, lack lustre, appalling customer service, jobsworths, uncaring, inconsiderate failing service we have ever had the misfortune to experience. And thats just about a current account transfer of funds. Absolutely abysmal. If this was trip advisor I would say avoid at all costs.....could even result in a mental health breakdown!!! They really are that unprofessional and inefficient. If you are a customer, I wish you had a lamp you could rub, the genie appears....use every wish to banish the halifax!

Went in to my branch to deposit money in to my account, Branch was like a ghost town, so went to the counter as i hate using the self service machines, Meet with the most condescending cashier ever, before I even open my mouth she jumped down my throat with "Have you used the self service machines before?" i reply with "Yes but i don't like to use them I prefer to use the counter " and she replies with " Tough i don't care if you don't like them you'll have to get over it and stop being stupid, if there's a queue for the counter we can refuse to serve you for something as stupid as depositing money when you can use the machines. I'm now looking for a new bank that doesn't think depositing money into my own account stupid.

Applied for a Halifax clarity card online 2 years ago and i was told to visit a local branch with my ID. I did this, taking my in-date passport, driving license and previous month's utility bill. I waited 20mins to see someone just to get a blank look. I kept explaining and showing them the application email telling me to bring my ID in. Eventually they went away and scanned everything. I called a week later as was still receiving texts telling me to bring in my ID. Apparantly they never received anything. Went out of my way and paid parking for nothing. Never got the card or an apology. More recently, I applied for another Halifax credit card as it was the best deal. I have a perfect credit rating and low HIIT rate btw. I was asked to send ID, but this time i posted it. A photocopy of my passport, driving licence and bank statement (dated the month before), using their exact wording for the certification, and signed by a qualified accountant. I have now received an email telling me it cannot be used because it is "either out of date, uncertified or not documents we accept" and saying i need to go into a branch. What's the point?! They lost my documents last time. I think they should have at least called me to explain the problem as all the documents were in date and on the list or approved documents, and it specifically said that a qualified accountant could certify them. All her details were given. I will NEVER apply for any halifax account again. Absolutely useless, and has wasted far too much of my time. Luckily, i this morning I applied for a card with another bank instead and was immediately approved with no hassle. Another one I applied to a few months back with a building society received the same ID and certifications that I sent to Halifax and has since set up my account with no hassle.

I have been a Halifax banking customer for a few years. They have an arrangement with the British Post office, so that customer can pay in cash and cheques, this has been useful. However the post office has changed is cash paying procedure since 19th January. Halifax staff disputed this But the Post office have confirmed this. It appears communication is poor between the post office and Halifax staff. I raised this with the Halifax to get no help just told to contact the post office. It appears the new system is better but how bad it is that Halifax staff argue and dispute this. I tried to e-mail using their online system, but it keep coming up with Errors. This is the e-mail from the post office edited.Dear Mr. Thomas Thank you for your email. I can confirm that the way we process manual cash deposits changed from the 19th of January. In order to make the changes, we worked with all our partner banks to role out the new procedure, which is more secure and speeds up the time in which a customer account is updated.
