Would give 0 if i could. I've had countless problems with them from bank charges to rude and unhelpful advisors (including their complaints staff!) - very unsympathetic when my dad died and i incurred charges, refused to remove unless i proved he had passed away around that time!! Stay well away.

They do not even rate 1 star. Absolute crap. They declined my card as I had exceeded my credit limit. Fair enough. I was abroad at the time and tried to contact them to so that I could pay off the balance owing. I called about 8 times. I was put on hold and told that it would take 10 - 20 mins. to answer. I was calling from the USA so this was not viable. I called at 2.30am UK time and was advised that the system was very busy! I wasted £20 trying to get through. They give a number to call if you are calling from overseas but you still end up in having to hold on. The service is useless. I have wasted valuable holiday time trying to contact them and money. I cannot express the anger I feel and the hassle I have suffered. As soon as I get home I am going to shred the card. Useless bloody company. Terence Stothert

I've had a really poor experience. Firstly, I was kept on hold for 20 minutes, then after giving my details I was passed around the call centre 3 times, each time repeating my details! Once I was finally put through to claims and gave an explanation of what happened the agents system crashed and was told it would take about 20-25 minutes to reboot so arranged to call me back!!!! Once they eventually called me back I was given a list of things I had to do to validate my claim and was also told I would"next year you policy may change due to me claiming today! I was also instructed to take photos to validate my claim so they could send someone out! This claim was not effortless as I hoped it would be. Possibly the worst experience I've ever had.

On 2 separate occasions I have visited the Cleckheaton branch, both times I have received appalling service courtesy of lazy managers and counter staff that can not be bothered to do their job!! On one of the occasions I required quite a lot of change (about 100 coins), at first they told me that they did not have enough to give me them. I was then told that they somehow magically acquired these when I questioned why a bank did not have change on hand. The second time, I needed to withdraw money when I had lost my card - I was greeted with suspicion and told that they was not allowed to withdraw any money without any ID, which I did not have seen as though I had lost my wallet. I then went to a different branch who was more than willing me to provide me with the small amount I needed. It's safe to say that I will be taking my banking elsewhere.

Although the terms and conditions of my current account say they accept cash in the branches. However, Halifax branch refuses to accept it unless it is correctly bagged in the exact amount of each coin per bag. For example, you could deposit multiples of exactly £20 cash if its all the same sort (either old or new) £1 coins in a bag, but not £19 or £21. When I rang to complain, the "operator" said all the banks did that. When I explained calmly that I work with other banks and have never experienced that before, most banks are capable of counting loose cash, he said "I'm not going to argue with you". When I asked his name, he hung up.

Halifax in the Stratford Mall has the poorest customer service I have come across. The bank manager is rude. Even when I made complaint against such a bad service. The person handling the complaint was biased. And she ask me to explain what happened even she has the incident written for her. She insists she wants to hear from me but don't let me finish and keep interjecting with defensive comments. She then threatened to disconnect me and say I have been rude to her. When I questioned her on which basis she started waffling and said I can't continue with this argument. I have move my money. I will switch and even get bonus. So if you are out there and you are getting poor services. Switch to the good banks like first direct, HSBC, tsb.

I thought this was a good bank until today, I was trying to make an urgent online payment, when I got to the payment verification page, I received a call from Halifax I followed all the instruction " TYPE IN VERIFICATION CODE 1143 ON YOUR COMPUTER" blah blah blah, wish I did, it came out as wrong even though I typed-in the correct code, I tried this again, still wrong!, so I tried another verification method, and the next message I received was "WE ARE SORRY WE ARE REVIEWING YOUR PAYMENT TO MR so so and so AND CANT COMPLETE IT AT THE MOMENT "YOUR REFERENCE NUMBER IS blah blah blah UNTIL WE ARE ABLE TO SPEAK TO YOU THE PAYMENT WILL NOT BE MADE call 0800 015 0026 WITH THE ABOVE REFERENCE NUMBER" Okay fair enough, I called the number, after waiting on the phone for so long, a staff member picked the phone, and asked me all sort of security questions, he even asked me the reason for making the payment, and who the person is!, after wasting my time, he told me to hold on, he came back and said " SORRY YOU WILL NEED TO GO INTO ONE OF OUR BRANCHES WITH YOUR ID" At that moment I was really angry, I went to the bank and spoke with a man I explained everything and gave him my biometric residential permit, he told me "SORRY YOU NEED TO BRING A PASSPORT OR DRIVING LICENCE" I was sent home, Now I know that common sense is not so common, all this stress!!!!! for trying to make a payment of £450!!!!!, worst customer service ever, they are trying to act smart, but its the exact opposite!!! I will never recommend this bank, if possible I will rate them 0, my advice to anyone reading this, if you do not want unnecessary disappointment, you should have more than one account, do not depend on halifax, open an account in a more competent bank, check customers review

I've been with them a few years now. Pros: the website is clear and displays the interest rate which is nice! The savings interest rates used to be very good but are rubbish now (but they're rubbish everywhere, to be fair). The £3 per month has been a great bonus and I've had a few pounds from using cashback. Paying in cheques using my card at a machine in a branch is easy, no problems in general except for one. Con: had one particularly frustrating and long-drawn out experience with access for a disabled person but eventually it got fixed. You do have to have 2 direct debits per month paid in and 750 paid in per month to qualify for the £3 bonus.

Avoid this bank all together!!!!!! I switched over 4 years ago to these money grabbers from Natwest; I thought Natwest were bad but this bank is a joke. I'm currently in the states going through a visa process and unable to work, I contacted the bank as they all of a sudden put a £1 a day overdraft fee on my account which I also pay £15 a month for. I'm now in debt with a re occuring monthly overdraft fee, I rang the bank to help in this matter but got fobbed of and the guy had no clue about anything. offered no advise even though i repeatedly told him i have no way of paying the amount owed & I've borrowed what i can from family. I also asked for the account to be put back to a basic one as I don't use the features of the Ultimate Reward account and I'm still getting charged £15 a month for it. I told them If i could get the money to settle the account then I'd like to close my account; however he told me they need to send me out a pack and I have to do this in writing? I'm in the states and all the while more it takes to receive this pack I'm getting in even more debt! My advise would be to put your money elsewhere as it's impossible to get anything out of this bank

I had a recent recent dispute with Halifax and they decided to close my account with no notice, they did advise on 17/5/17 my account had some indicators and would be suspended until investigated - Personal account running some business through so ok I understand that. I advised I was due to receive money today 26/5/17 and was told there would be no issue receiving this on 19/5/17 they closed my account with no notice no letter or anything only to be told this on the 25/5/17 after payments were already on the way to my bank to make matters worse told that a returned payment takes upto 7 working days what a joke.

Greedy Halifax bank charges £1.00 a day for arranged overdraft even if only 2p overdrawn, Best interest rate they give on isa is 0.25% which is a joke but Halifax advertise it as if it's such a good interest rate, now the Halifax £5.00 reward if pay in £750 a month and have 2 direct debits has dropped to £3.00 a month. The Oldham branch is an absolute dump same disgusting carpet with chewing gum and drinks spilt all over it for around 20 years now and every time I go in on my lunch break there's only ever 2 members of staff working and a huge queue. The deposit machines never accept my cheques and always seem to spit my money back out so I end up queuing twice just to do a simple deposit. Can't go in after my shift because there closed at 5pm Halifax are a bunch of penny pinchers. They want our money in there bank but don't give us anything in return and customer service is poor and staff seem to look like there about to attend a funeral.

I have never been with a bank which are so unfriendly and helpful i would advise anybody to stay away from Halifax and the bank charges per month are extortionate with no help from any agent I have spoke to. They continue to keep charging me ridiculous fees which ultimately puts me in a position of an unplanned overdraft most months I will be moving away immediately,

I do not bank with Halifax and thank god I don't. Their customer service is appalling. I had my card swallowed by one of their atm's and my bank have confirmed there was no problem with my card but I will not receive a new one for 5-7 days. I have absolutley no cash on me or anyone who can lend me some in the meantime so I called halifax to complain and to see if they could compensate me for having to be without access to money for a week. The woman I spoke to acknowledged there was no problem with my card but refused to take responsibility for their atm error. I understand technology isn't foolproof, but if it belongs to you, it's your responsibility to resolve any issues it may cause. The woman made it clear I would not receive compensation and just kept saying "but you've not lost money" that's not the point, I have lost out on necessary financial expenses and will be unable to buy necessities for a week due to your atm error! I've even had to cancel important things this week as a result, so frustrating, will definitley never bank with them ever!

Absolutely terrible, Tooting branch, over 30 customers waiting, manager no where to be seen, young new chap left to deal all customers, he is unable even to use a till. No one is to be found, no apology, no cash machines working inside, this branch has got to be the worst branch, non professional and in fact non acceptable, they deserve customers to go to others branches. The manager of this branch should be ashamed of how they have dealt with this and general running of this branch, you are waiting at the best of times.
